Bad weather arrangement

Driving test:

According to the Transport Department, the Driving Examiner has the right not to conduct a driving test after considering the road situation under rainy days or slippery roads as well as safety concerns.

If either Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal no. 8 or above is hoisted, an "Extreme Conditions" announcement or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued, driving tests of all vehicle classes (including written test and road test) will be rescheduled. If such signals are issued before service hours but lowered after 7:00 a.m., all driving tests scheduled before 1:00 p.m. will be cancelled. If such signals are still hoisted at 11:30 a.m., all driving tests in the afternoon session will also be cancelled. Candidates who are scheduled to take driving tests do not have to report to the test centre.

In addition, if the Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement is issued, the driving tests of which the expected completion time is within one hour from the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal no. 8 hoisting time mentioned in the Special Announcement (except for written test) will be cancelled.

If the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued during service hours (i.e. 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), all driving tests will be suspended. If the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is lowered during service hours, the driving test service will resume, depending on the weather and traffic conditions.

Notes to Hong Kong School of Motoring students :
Affected candidates would be approached and notified by our Centre staff of the new appointment arranged if the test is cancelled.

Classes

Theoretical Classes and Practical Classes
  • When the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory, all classes in progress will be suspended or cancelled immediately.
  • When the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is in effect, all trainings will continue as usual unless otherwise announced. It is up to the students whether to continue or end the classes early.
  • Two hours after the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 is cancelled, all training programs will resume as normal. If the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 is cancelled after 18:30 (Monday to Saturday and public holidays) or after 15:30 (Sunday), all training programs will be cancelled on that day.
  • In case of inclement weather, besides posting notices at the Road Safety Centres, we will also upload the relevant information to the Centre’s hotline for the convenient reference of the students. In the event of class suspension, the respective Instructors will contact the students within one week to follow up on the class arrangement.

Driving Improvement Classes
If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued two hours before class, the class will be cancelled.

If the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above is issued during the class hours, students may choose to continue to complete the morning or afternoon class, or leave immediately and reschedule the class by appointment.

If a student has completed the morning class, he/she only needs to make an appointment for and complete the afternoon class within two months and is not required to attend the full-day class.

Taxi Classes
If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued two hours before class, the class will be cancelled.

If the signal is issued during the class hours, students may choose to continue with the class or leave immediately and finish it later (no limit on the number of attendances for the class).

Road Safety Centre

When the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above is issued, counter service at all Road Safety Centres will be temporarily suspended and resumed two hours after the warning signal is cancelled.

If the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued, counter service at all Road Safety Centres will continue as scheduled.
